Online Instruction for Remediation

We as educators know that our students learn at different rates, that some need more help than others. A lot of educators could not figure out a way to run a classroom where students are not held back because they have mastered a topic while other students haven’t, this is why traditional learning isn’t the answer anymore. The answer to this problem it to utilize technology to humanize a classroom. Technology is our future and can help students learn, enjoy, engage, and master subjects. After watching the Ted Talk video about Khan Academy and reading LinkedIn Learning, I found a way for educators to balance lectures that can benefit all students instead of doing one-size fits all lectures.

Self-pace learning is essential for students to understand and grasp the concepts of the lectures that are taught by the teachers. This also helps teachers because teachers will be able to see what students are struggling and they will be able to assist those students better. Technology such as online tools for learning helps students interact with their peers, students will be able to watch lectures online at their own pace and time, and you can review the lecture as many times as you want until the student masters it.

An example of this is let’s say for each chapter in the Math textbook, the teacher lets the students take a pretest to determine if they already mastered the skills and which students need more time to understand the skills and master them. The students that need more time will be able to work independently on the lessons by watching video’s and/or reading from a book, this is where self-pace learning comes into play. This is an example of why online tools like Kan Academy uses and LinkedIn Learning uses to benefit the students in the classroom.
